Walberswick Shop

Suffolk

Project status: Completed
Budget: £0.2m

A new build shop in a Suffolk fishing village.

This project is for the design of a small shop on the main street in Walberswick. The commercial buildings on the street are characteristically single storey pitched roof ‘sheds’, residual structures from the times when Walberswick was a fishing village. Our project takes the idea of the  fisherman’s shack along the village shore line, and elevates it through careful detailing.

The building is a simple timber frame, clad externally with black corrugated metal sheet, with black stained timber windows penetrating the tight metal envelope and adding detail to the abstraction of the form. We adapted the manufacturer's edge details to achieve a crisper edge which emphasises the form of the building.
