V&A Cast Courts

London
2010–2010
Client: V&A Museum
Project status: Competition

An invited competition design for the restoration and reorganisation of the V&A Cast Courts.

This competiton design introduced a series of architectural elements into the twin spaces of the Cast Courts, to provide a structure for display and to deepen the layering of cast elements in the galleries.

These elements ranged from a gallery projecting from the upper floor to approach Trajan's Column, and free-standing walls, to tables and plinths. These provided places of encounter with the casts, for hanging, supporting, grouping, and displaying.

All new elements were themselves cast from a fine concrete.
